What Is The Global Talent Visa?

The global talent visa is a new version of the UK’s exceptional talent visa. This document allows a specific selection of talented and promising individuals to arrive and stay in the UK. Bringing in people who work in specific industries enables them to gain entry clearance into the country faster and gain residency quicker than with other visa types.

For the UK government, one of the benefits of this global talent route is the increased quantity of talented individuals who arrive in the UK and contribute to industries that the government views as key.

The typical bureaucracy that is associated with sponsor licences and certificates is totally voided by this and is not applied to global talent visas. Similarly, the information policy that comes with most other visa types is not as strict. UK global talent visa holders do not even need to inform the government about job changes.

Global talent migrants can freely reside in the UK without having to pass any procedures or commissions for the duration of the visa’s applicability.

Our immigration team are experienced lawyers who can help your business.

Who Is Eligible To Get A Global Talent Visa?

To qualify for this type of global talent route, applicants need to prove to the UK Visa and Immigration Service that they fit the qualifying global talent criteria. The qualifying criteria for global talent applicants are as follows:

    • The applicant is over the age of 18.
    • The application does not fall under the typical grounds for a refusal.
    • The person has been issued with an endorsement letter by an endorsing body approved by the Home Office. Alternatively, the applicant could also have been awarded a prize that has been listed in the Appendix, Global Talent: Prestigious Prizes.
    • The applicant has provided a valid TB certificate (should this be required).

The requirements do differ depending on the circumstances. This is why having an expert lawyer on hand for advice can be a great help. Contact us today at +44 (0)333 305 9375 to get some advice regarding the specific requirements you will need to meet.

    Endorsement Entities

In order to apply for a talent visa, the applicant needs to first receive an endorsement, which can come from one of six different endorsing bodies, with each of these entities being responsible for a specific specialist global talent visa category. These endorsing bodies include the following:

    • The Royal Society: For science and medicine.
    • The British Academy: For humanities.
    • Arts Council England: For art and culture.
    • The Royal Academy Of Engineering: For engineering.
    • Tech Nation: For those with digital technology or those with technical and business skills
    • UKRI: For UK research or those in an academic or research position.

Should your field be in architecture, fashion, or film and TV, the Arts Council England passes on your application to be reviewed by either the British Fashion Council, RIBA, or PACT, depending on which is applicable to your specialist global talent category.

There is a substantial difference between gaining endorsement and having an application for a global talent visa approved. Endorsement is just one part of the application process.
