Godfrey: Civil Partner Visa

George was from the UK and wanted to bring Godfrey, his partner, a Ghanaian National over to the UK as a Proposed Civil Partner.

George did well in life, retiring at an early age and relying on his savings. Because of this, he was unsure about whether he met the Financial Requirements. George contacted IAS and met with a lawyer in Leicester – the lawyer explained to George that Financial Requirements were only one of the many different requirements needed. However, to George’s delight, the lawyer determined that George fulfilled all the requirements.

Two months later, George e-mailed IAS ecstatically telling us that both he and Godfrey are now happily living together in the UK.

1: The situation

Godfrey was a Ghanaian National who was engaged to George, from the UK.

George wanted to bring Godfrey to the UK as a Proposed Civil Partner but was confused by the rules.

Specifically, he was confused about the financial requirements – George had retired from work at an early age and relied entirely on his savings.

He thought he had more than enough to meet the threshold but had noted the many different requirments that needed to be considered.

Bearing this in mind, George dropped into our office to seek advice.

2: How IAS helped

George was greeted and immediately seen to by a lawyer.

Our lawyer asked many questions about George’s financial situation. It appeared that his savings came from numerous sources and investments that he held.

We then drew a plan of action up for the couple and advised George to only use the savings he had that were immediately available to him.

3: The outcome

Godfrey’s application was submitted and successful – with our help, the documents were presented in a way that ensured that their intentions to spend their lives together and that their financial situation was unquestionable.

Godfrey and George will also be coming to IAS when Godfrey is eligible to switch from a Spouse Visa to ILR.
