US Work Visas
Some of the popular business visas that IAS can provide support with include:
L-1 Visa
The L-1 Visa is available to employees of multinational corporations with branches both domestically and internationally. After working for the employer for at least one continuous year outside of the US within the three years prior to admission, the visa enables these foreign workers to relocate to the company’s US office.
The US and non-US employers must be related in one of the following four ways.
- Parent and subsidiary,
- Branch and headquarters,
- Sister companies owned by a common parent
- Affiliate companies
EB-1 Visa
The EB-1 is available to people of exceptional talent, distinguished professors and researchers, and international executives or managers. The EB-1 Green Card confers permanent resident status, enabling unlimited employment and indefinite stay in the US. After five years of continuous residency, applicants may also submit an application for US citizenship.
There is no need for a Labor Certification from the Department of Labor for EB-1 Visa applicants. The application procedure is, therefore, simpler, and the wait time shorter than for most other immigrant visa categories.
EB-5 Visa
The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program was created with the purpose of boosting the American economy by allowing foreign investors to contribute capital and create jobs.
Investors can either make a direct investment in a new business or invest through regional centres recognized by the USCIS as supporting economic growth in order to be eligible for the EB-5 classification.
At least 10 qualified employees must receive full-time positions as a result of the investment, either directly or indirectly. The new business must immediately produce the necessary full-time employees for investments made outside of regional centres.
Evidence that the investment has been maintained, the necessary jobs have been created, and the investment capital has been preserved is required for issuance of permanent residency.
H-1B Visa
The H-1B visa is intended for Nigerian skilled employees in specialist occupations. The role must require a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent, and the applicant must meet the requirements for the position and have the requisite training and experience. In order to qualify for an H-1B visa, the sponsoring company must show that they are paying the prevailing wage and that no competent US workers can be hired for the position.
US Visitor Visas
Here are some of the visas we can help with:
- B-1 Business Visa: We can assist you in securing a B-1 visa, enabling you to engage in business activities such as attending conferences, negotiating contracts, and exploring investment opportunities.
- B-2 Tourist Visa: Our legal experts can facilitate your application for a B-2 visa, allowing you to enjoy recreational activities, visit friends and family, and experience the cultural richness of the United States.
- B-1/B-2 Combination Visa: If your travel plans encompass both business and leisure purposes, our lawyers can guide you in obtaining a combination visa that caters to your diverse needs.
US Family Visas
Here are a few ways we can help:
- K-1 Fiancé Visa: Our legal team can assist you in joining your fiancé in the United States to get married within 90 days of arrival.
- CR-1/IR-1 Spouse Visa: We provide dedicated support for Nigerian spouses of US citizens and lawful permanent residents, ensuring a streamlined process for your immigration journey.
- IR-2/CR-2 Child Visa: We help with Reuniting families, including children as well. Our lawyers help you secure visas for your children and stepchildren to join you in the US.
- Adjustment of Status: We guide you through the process of adjusting your status after entering the US on a family visa, helping you transition towards permanent residency.
Obtaining a Green Card Through Your Spouse
If you are married to a US citizen, you can apply for lawful permanent residency in the United States. However, this can be a challenging process, and you may wish to seek advice from a US-based immigration specialist to avoid delays or possible refusal.
The first step is for the US citizen spouse to file Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative, on behalf of the foreign spouse. This form establishes the familial relationship and initiates the Green Card application process.
Along with the I-130 petition, you must provide evidence to demonstrate that your marriage is bona fide and not entered into solely for immigration purposes. This evidence can include documents such as marriage certificates, joint financial records, lease agreements, photos together, and affidavits from friends and family.
IAS focuses on family-based immigration, which includes getting Green Cards through marriage to a US citizen. Our immigration lawyers assist clients with Form I-130 submissions, documentation verification and compiling supporting materials. This improves the likelihood that successful outcomes will occur, prevents errors, and aids in navigating difficult requirements.

Cost of Hiring a US Immigration Lawyer
Several factors might affect how much it costs to hire an immigration lawyer in the USA. These include:
- The complexity of your case
- The lawyer’s expertise and reputation
- The location in which you live
- The particular services you need
It is necessary to talk about costs and arrangements for payment with the lawyer at the start of your consultation. The following are some typical fee schedules that immigration lawyers provide.
- Hourly Rate – In some cases, immigration lawyers bill their clients on an hourly basis. Depending on the attorney’s skill and the region, the charge can range greatly, from roughly $150 to $500 or more per hour. However, at IAS, we bill Nigerian clients flat fees in naira at the best value for money to eliminate payment complications.
- Flat Fee – This is a predetermined amount for a specific service, regardless of the time it takes to complete the work. Flat fees are commonly offered for services such as preparing and filing visa applications or petitions.
- Retainer Fee – If you own a business and you want to open a branch in the US and hire foreign workers, depending on how often you need our service, we might provide a retainer.
It is important to note that attorney’s fees are separate from other expenses related to your immigration case, such as government filing fees, translation costs and medical examination fees.
Common Issues Faced During the Immigration Process
For a variety of legal immigration-related issues, such as visa applications, petitions, Green Card applications, removal processes, employment authorisation, humanitarian assistance, criminal charges, and immigration compliance, IAS provides personalised and experienced advice and support.
Some typical areas of concern for those hoping to start a new life in the US include:
- Visa applications and petitions – Visa applications, whether for business, family, or student purposes, include a rigorous process requiring adherence to particular specifications, documents, and dates. Applications that are incomplete or inaccurate risk being denied, being delayed, or encountering other issues.
- Visa denials and waivers – It might be difficult to enter or remain in the United States if you have certain reasons for inadmissibility, such as criminal convictions, immigration infractions, or health-related problems. However, exemptions could be possible to get around these reasons; this requires thorough legal analysis and planning.
- Applications for a Green Card – Getting a Green Card, which allows you permanent residency in the US, can be a difficult process. During the application procedure, problems with eligibility, sponsorship, documentation, and fulfilment of requirements may occur.
- Removal proceedings – People who are being removed or deported from the United States could run into legal issues. These proceedings frequently include hearings before an immigration court, when people are required to make a compelling case against deportation.
- Employment authorisation – Obtaining the right work visa or employment-based Green Card may be necessary to gain work authorisation in the United States. It can be difficult to navigate the work immigration system’s barriers, such as employer sponsorship and labor certifications.
- Criminal charges may have negative immigration repercussions – These may include being barred from entering the country, being deported, or losing access to immigration benefits. In these circumstances, it is essential to comprehend how criminal and immigration laws interact.
