Can I Apply for a Canada Visitor Visa from the USA as a Visitor

If you require a Canada visitor visa to enter Canada, you may be able to apply while in the USA as a visitor. However, you must clearly state in your application the reasons why you are not applying from a country for which you are a resident. Also, note that the method you use to apply matters; for example, if it is a paper application, it should be done from your country of residence.

Note that not everyone needs a Canada visa. Citizens of visa-exempt countries do not need a visa, and citizens of some countries only require an electronic travel authorisation (eTA), which is less complicated

Due to how complicated the process can be when it comes to acquiring a Canadian visitor visa from within the USA as a visitor, it is advisable that you contact immigration lawyers to assist with your case. Call us on +1 844 290 6312 for immediate assistance today.

Types of Canada Visas for Holders of USA Visitor Visas

There are types of Canada Visa options to choose from as a holder of a US Visitor Visa. These are:

Visit or Tourist Visa

Travelers from 57 countries, including the US and EU citizens, don’t need a visa to enter Canada. An eTA permits travelers to enter Canada, instead of using a traditional visa and is an option for visitors from visa-exempt countries.

However, if you’re from one of the 147 countries that do need a visa, you’ll need to apply for a Visitor Visa (TRV) at a Canadian embassy or consulate. The process will depend on your country of citizenship.

You must pay a $100 application fee for a Canada Visitor Visa. The biometrics fee is around $85 per person and but this can vary depending on age and what is needed. The passport processing fee is around $45.

Family Visit Visa

Canada Family Visit Visa lets your loved ones, like your spouse, parents, children, or siblings, come and visit you in Canada. You may need an invitation letter from your family member as one of the documents.

Business Visitor Visa

For business people attending a conference, trade show, or doing business in Canada, you can apply for this visa. You’ll need to provide business letterhead, appointment confirmation, and sponsorship from a Canadian company.

Temporary Resident Visitor Visa

Holders of a valid Resident Visitor Visa who plan to visit Canada for less than six months can apply for this visa. You must provide proof of your residency, employment or accommodation confirmation and travel insurance.

Can B1/B2 Visa Holders Visit Canada?

It doesn’t matter if you hold a US B1/B2 visa, if you are from a visa-required country to Canada, you must still obtain a Canada visitor visa in order to visit Canada.

What is Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) for Visitors to Canada?

An Electronic Travel Authorisation, also known as an eTA, is a requirement for visa-exempt foreign nationals who plan to fly to or transit through Canada. It’s similar to a traditional visa but electronically linked to your passport. It’s valid for up to five years or until the expiration date on your passport.

With an eTA, the border officer may grant you a shorter stay based on various factors, such as your purpose of visit, travel documents, and proof of funds. An eTA fee costs $46.70.
