Expert Trainers & Advice

If I pass the course, will I be a regulated immigration adviser?
If you pass the IAA Level 1 competence assessment (with 60%+), you will be able to practice as an immigration adviser within the permitted advisory capacity of IAA Level 1, as long as you have completed a minimum of 3 months of full-time work experience giving immigration advice in the UK (or 6 months advisory experience in another field, such as debt, employment, housing or welfare).
To become a regulated IAA Advisor, you must pass the official accreditation exam set by the IAA. This exam is not included as part of this training course. Our Exam Technique Training is designed to help you maximise your marks during your exam.
How is the IAA Level 1 exam structured?
The OISC Level 1 exam is structured into two parts:
- The first part comprises 20 multiple-choice questions. You have 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete this section of your OISC exam. There is only one correct answer for each question.
- The second part presents different scenario-based questions to be answered within 1 hour and 15 minutes. You should provide answers which are legible and written clearly in plain English.

Course outcomes
The IAA Level 1 training course is a requirement for passing the competency assessment. We prepare you not only to pass the assessment, but also to perform the key duties of an immigration adviser. We help you gain the:
- Confidence to pass the official IAA/Level 1 assessment (MCQ + scenario), having practised exam technique, questions and timing.
- Competency for assisting clients with basic immigration, nationality and asylum applications and matters within the Level 1 scope.
- Competency for interviewing clients, gathering evidence, keeping clients informed, recording decisions and managing basic client correspondence
- Understanding of the ethical and professional regulations under the IAA Code of Conduct
- Ability to identify and apply key pieces of legislation, ECHR articles, free movement rights, enforcement law, and more.
How does IAA Level 1 compare with other levels?
IAA Level 1 also acts as the first of three levels for qualified and regulated immigration advisers in the UK.
IAA Level 1
Permits basic application advice on entry clearance and leave to remain (visa applications)
IAA Level 2
Permits more complex advisory services for those with immigration breaches or refusals on their record. It permits administrative reviews and advising on asylum claims
IAA Level 3
Permits all advisory actions in Level 1 and Level 2, and allows you to represent clients in tribunal appeals

No, exam fees are separate from our IAA training program. Training is a prerequisite for the competency assessment at level 1.
IAA registration fees include the competence assessment fees and are payable by legal firms and/or individuals directly to the IAA. To register a single adviser as an IAA Level 1 adviser, the cost is £733.
There is no guarantee you will pass the competency assessment. It depends on the quality of your preparation and performance. It is recommended to complete the training session in full and spend longer than the required time (3 months of immigration firm practice) in practice.
There is typically only one attempt permitted per application. You can re-apply for the competency assessment after further training.
There are no fixed academic entry requirements. However, clear competence and experience are expected to pass the assessment; therefore, training is essential.
