IAS Immigration Caseworker Featured by BBC Scotland

Rachel Turner, an immigration caseworker at Immigration Advice Service in Aberdeen, has been featured by BBC Scotland News providing insight into the UK’s Graduate visa route and the immigration options available to international students after completing their studies. The BBC Scotland News article focused on the case of newly elected Scottish Green MSP Dr Q Manivannan, who is currently in the UK on a student visa and is applying for a Graduate visa to continue living and working in the country following the completion of their studies.

As part of the report, Rachel explained that it is “fairly common” for international students to progress onto a Graduate visa after completing their course, highlighting the route as an established pathway for graduates seeking to gain professional experience and begin their careers in the UK. She also noted that applications typically receive a decision from the Home Office within approximately eight weeks of submission.

The Graduate visa route, introduced in 2021, allows eligible international students to remain in the UK for two years after completing an undergraduate or master’s degree, or three years following a PhD, without requiring immediate employer sponsorship. The route continues to play a significant role in supporting international graduates as they transition from education into employment.

The feature reflects IAS’s ongoing role in providing clear, practical immigration guidance to individuals navigating the UK immigration system, including students, graduates, and professionals exploring long-term settlement and work opportunities in the UK. As discussions around post-study work visas and Scotland’s future immigration needs continue, access to accurate legal advice remains increasingly important for international students seeking clarity on their immigration options and application timelines.
