Liz Truss’s UK Immigration Policy
If elected, Liz Truss has promised to extend the plan to send asylum-seekers to Rwanda as she believed that the policy is the right approach and the UK government should “see it through to full implementation”.
Furthermore, to help secure the UK borders, Truss has vowed to increase Border Force staff from 9,000 to 10,800 as well as promising to strengthen the UK bill of rights.

ishi Sunak’s UK Immigration Policy
Rishi Sunak, if elected as UK Prime Minister, has vowed to tighten the definition and requirements of those applying as asylum seekers. To add to his plan, Sunak would like to introduce the following:
- A cap on the number of refugees allowed into the UK
- “Enhanced powers” of the UK government to detain, electronically tag and monitor individuals who have entered the UK illegally
Much like Truss, Sunak also intends to continue deporting asylum-seekers to Rwanda.

The Rwanda Policy
The controversial policy of sending certain asylum-seekers to Rwanda hasn’t seen much traction as of late. Despite the UK investing £120 million into the project, no asylum seekers have yet to be sent to Rwanda due to legal challenges. If the policy is ruled unlawful by the UK courts, taxpayer money will be squandered and all investments will be lost to Rwanda.
Despite both candidates championing the cause, many critics questions the effectiveness of the Rwanda policy in deterring risky Channel crossings.
