Overview of the Visa Fees for Canada
Canada visa fees encompass all the payments you must make while applying for your Canadian work visa. You must pay these fees no matter the kind of work visa you are applying for.
Proof of payment of these fees must accompany your application, or your application will be denied.
Work Permit Costs
The cost of a Canada work visa for a single person is $155.
If you are applying as a group, you need to pay $465.
If your work permit is an open work permit, you will have to pay $100.
For work visa renewals, you will pay $355. $155 is payment for your new work visa, while $200 is for restoration of status.
If you intend to travel to Canada with your family (common-law partner, spouse or conjugal partner and dependents) on a work visa, you must also apply for visas for them at a cost.
Any of your family members coming with you and above 22 can choose to work or study. If they will work, then you will pay the same visa fees for them.
Family members who don’t want to work or are below 22 can apply for study or visitor visas. The fees are $150 and $100, respectively.
You must pay these fees as they apply and add evidence of payment when applying online for your work permit.
Biometric Fees
Nigerians are required to submit their biometrics when applying for a Canada work visa. This is the fee collected by the visa application centre to process your fingerprint collection and digital photo production.
- If you are applying for yourself alone, you pay $85 for this service.
- If you are applying for you and your family, you pay $170.
- If you are applying as a group of artists, you pay $255.

Costs of Obtaining an LMIA
The Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is an application your Canadian employer must make on your behalf. This application is made to the Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC). Here the employer asks the ESDC to assess the Canadian labour market to know if there are Canadians who can do the job you are meant to do.
If the ESDC finds that there are Canadians who can do the job, they will issue a negative LMIA which generally means that you cannot be hired. If they cannot find any Canadian to do the job satisfactorily, they will give a positive LMIA, indicating that you can be employed. This service costs $1,000 for each employee.
Employer Compliance Fee
If your employer hires you as a temporary worker via the International Mobility program, your employer will also need to pay a fee on your behalf. This fee is called the employer compliance fee. It costs $230 per person and $690 if you are hired as part of a group.
Medical Examination Fee
Nigerians coming to Canada through the temporary worker route must undergo medical checks to ensure their admission into Canada. The amount you have to pay for the medical exam depends on the physician you are using.
However, most people pay between $150 to $280 as medical fees. This is the fee for one person. You must pay this fee for all your family members travelling with you.
Police Character Certificate
You must also pay to get your police character certificate, as you need it to apply for your work visa. You can get this at the Criminal and Investigation Department of any state police headquarters in Nigeria. The cost of obtaining this certificate is currently N40,000.

Payment Methods and Options
There are many ways to pay your fees when applying for a Canada work visa.
- You can create an account with the IRCC and pay and make an application online with your debit card.
- You can pay online and make an application manually. To do this, you have to pay online, print the receipt and attach it to your application.
- You can also pay at the Abuja or Lagos visa application centre.
