Spain has approved the extraordinary regularization process for migrants

The Government of Spain, through the Council of Ministers, has approved an extraordinary administrative regularization process aimed at migrants already residing in the country. The measure was published in the Official State Gazette on April 15, 2026, and will be in force from April 16 to June 30, 2026.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to regularize your status in Spain

This exceptional process aims to facilitate the social and legal integration of people in an irregular administrative situation or those who applied for international protection before January 1, 2026. The initiative is part of the migration policy of the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, focused on legal certainty and social cohesion.

Given the limited timeframe and the complexity of the requirements, it is essential to have professional advice from the beginning of the process.

Main requirements

To access this regularization, it will be necessary to:

  • Have resided in Spain before January 1, 2026.
  • Prove at least five months of continuous stay.
  • Have no criminal record.

Additionally, if in an irregular situation, at least one of the following must be demonstrated:

  • Having worked in Spain.
  • Having dependent family members (minor children, persons with disabilities, or ascendants).
  • Being in a verified situation of vulnerability.

Deadlines and procedure

Applications may be submitted between April 16 and June 30, 2026, either online or in person (by appointment).

Proper preparation of the application and documentation will be key to avoiding delays or possible rejections.

Rights and advantages of the process

Once the procedure has been initiated, applicants are automatically authorized to work in Spain in any sector.

The initial authorization will be valid for one year, with the possibility of continuing later through standard channels. In the case of minors, the authorization will be valid for five years.
