Boost UK Attractiveness to Global Talent

Speaking at the World Economic Forum, Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed a forthcoming white paper will lay out how the UK can appeal to overseas workers with in-demand skills.

“We are going to look again at routes for the highest skilled people, visas, particularly in the areas of AI and life sciences.

She added: “Britain is open for business, we are open for talent, we’ve got some of the best universities, some of the best entrepreneurs in the world, but we also want to bring in global talent.”

If you have any questions about hiring workers from overseas, our expert team is happy to assist.

Global Talent Visa and Skilled Worker Visa Pathways May Change

It is unclear at this early stage what the planned changes could be and how they may impact UK employers.

The government is likely to consult with UK companies and organisations about changes to immigration pathways such as the Global Talent visa and Skilled Worker visa.

There could also be a key role for British diplomats in ensuring overseas workers and entrepreneurs are aware of the benefits of relocating to the UK.

UK Visa Cost Concerns

However, there has been growing criticism from business leaders over the cost of UK visas and its impact on global recruitment. With visa costs up to 17 times higher than other nations such as the US, Canada and Australia, it is thought this could be undermining the UK’s ability to attract the world’s leading talent.

So any changes addressing visas costs and lengthy processing times proposed in the white paper could be welcomed by the UK business sector.
