UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) has updated the current processing times when applying from inside and outside the UK for a visa.

The updated times show that most study, visit and work visa applications are currently being processed in 3 weeks for overseas applicants and 8 weeks for those made from within the UK.

These standard times apply for straightforward applications and are subject to change – especially if there is an increase in demand for certain visas.

Current processing times for some visas are currently longer with Family Visa applications taking around 24 weeks while applicants can expect to receive a decision on British National (Overseas) within 12 weeks.

Not all applications are “straightforward”

Unfortunately, many applications may not be decided within these typical timeframes, especially if applicants are required to provide further documentation to support their case or attend an interview.

The Home Office is also stressing that it is not advisable to book travel arrangements until receiving approval if applying from outside the UK.

Several professional tennis players currently facing problems with their UK visas highlights the need to apply for entry to the UK in a timely manner.

Each application is treated on a “case-by-case basis”

With the world-famous Wimbledon quickly approaching, some Russian and Belarusian players are still waiting for the Home Office to process their visas.

Russian Mirra Andreeva fears she may miss the tournament despite applying more than six weeks ago for a Sportsperson Visa because of additional checks needed.

“We treat each application on a case-by-case basis and all applications to enter the UK will be assessed on their merit,” a Home Office spokesperson explained.

“Applicants will have to submit their biometrics and undergo thorough checks before permission to enter the UK is granted.”
