What is the processing time of the F2B Visa?

The F2B Visa allows unmarried adults over the age of 21 who are children of US Green Card holders to also receive a Green Card. It gives them the opportunity to come to live, study, and work permanently in the US.

The application process for the F2B Visa is complex and consists of two parts:

  • The sponsor, who must be the parent living in the US with a Green Card, needs to complete a petition for their child to US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
  • When the petition is accepted, the child can begin the application process in the country where they are located through a US Embassy or Consulate.

Each year, around 34,260 F2B Visas can be granted to applicants. There is no set time that determines how long the waiting time for the F2B visa is. Nevertheless, as the number of visas is capped, many people wait two or more years.

When your date becomes current and you reach the front of the line, you should submit the application immediately to avoid delays. To make the waiting time shorter, you should also make sure there are no mistakes in the application. Reach out to IAS to double check your application to avoid possible delays or rejection.

What is the Processing Time of the F2A Visa?

The F2A Visa allows spouses and unmarried children of US Green Card holders to join them in the USA. If their application is successful, they become permanent residents in the US and can legally live, work, and study there.

The application must start with the US citizen or permanent resident submitting the petition to USCIS for their spouse or a child. Then, the person wanting to come to the UK must apply to a US Embassy or Consulate in the country where they are.

Each year there are 79,940 F2A Visas available, but the demand for them is much higher. That is why the waiting time tends to be quite long. The processing time of the F2A visa varies depending on how many people applied before you. Nevertheless, it usually takes at least a year.

What is the Processing Time of the F3 Visa?

The F3 Visa allows married adult children of US citizens to join them in the US. It is designed for individuals who are 21 years old or older. If the application is successful, the family of US Green Card holders can live, work, and study in the US legally.

Each year, USCIS grants 23,400 F3 visas. The application process is complex, and just like with the F2 visa, it comprises two parts:

  • The parent who is a US citizen has to submit a petition to USCIS for the child
  • Once the petition is approved, the child and their family have to apply through a US Embassy or Consulate in the country where they are based.

As there are caps on the number of available F3 Visas and many people applying for it, the processing time can be extremely long. Most people wait around 1 year, but the waiting time can be as long as 10 years.

What is the Processing Time of the SB-1 Visa?

The SB-1 Visa is granted to US Green Card holders who come back to the country after spending more than a year abroad. The SB-1 Visa is a Re-entry permit valid for two years.

To apply for the SB-1 Visa, it is not necessary to petition for entry. To apply, you have to go to the US Embassy of the country where you are currently based.

It is important to submit your application for the SB-1 Visa a few months before your planned return to the US as the processing time varies between 3 and 6 months. The waiting time for the SB-1 Visa depends on how busy the embassy where you are applying is.

What is the Processing Time of the K1 Visa?

The K1 Visa allows US citizens to bring their fiancé(e) to the UK. If the application is successful, the partner who is a foreign citizen can come to the US so that the couple can get married within 90 days. After that, the couple can live together in the US and the fiancé(e) can apply to become a permanent resident.

To apply, the US sponsor has to submit a K1 visa petition for their fiancé(e). Once the petition is approved, the fiancé(e) will need to file an official application and attend an interview in person.

Once you have submitted the K1 petition, the processing time of the K1 Visa takes between 5 and 7 months. As the process of applying for the K1 visa is becoming increasingly complex, the waiting times become longer and fewer applications are successful
